Voice Reader — Support

Last updated 1 September 2026

Voice Reader turns written material — PDFs, photographs of pages, web links and pasted text — into speech you can listen to. If something is not working, or the answer you need is not below, write to us. Every message is read by the person who makes the app.

Writing about a problem? Tell us your iOS version, whether the listen came from a PDF, a photograph, a link or pasted text, and what you saw instead of what you expected. That is usually enough to find it without a second exchange.

The subscription

What Voice Reader Pro includes

Voice Reader Pro is a weekly auto-renewing subscription. It covers 150,000 characters of speech a week, every voice including the premium ones, offline playback and exporting a listen as an audio file. Where your Apple Account is eligible, it starts with a three-day free trial.

Why does generating audio need a subscription?

There is no free allowance for generation — the speech itself costs money to produce, and the subscription is what pays for it. Everything up to that point is open without paying: import a document, a photograph, a link or your own text, edit it, browse your library, and play a sample of each voice before you decide.

How do I cancel?

Cancelling is done in your Apple Account, not in the app: open the Settings app, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions, choose Voice Reader and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current week ends, or the next renewal is charged. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us — we never see your payment details and cannot issue one. Request it at reportaproblem.apple.com with the Apple Account that made the purchase.

I subscribed, but Pro is not active

Open Settings → Restore purchases in the app (the same button sits on the subscription screen) and make sure the device is signed in to the Apple Account that bought the subscription — a purchase made on another account cannot be restored onto this one. If it still does not unlock, write to us and say when and on which device you bought it.

Can I use one subscription on more than one device?

Yes — up to five devices signed in to the same Apple Account. The limit exists so a subscription is not shared beyond one household; if you reach it after replacing a device, write to us and we will release the old one.

What happens when I reach 150,000 characters?

Generation pauses until the allowance resets, which happens at the start of each week — Monday, UTC. Everything already generated stays on the device and plays normally. Settings shows what is left, as listening time rather than as a character count — 150,000 characters is roughly two and a half hours of audio.

Using the app

What can I import?

A PDF or document, a photograph of a printed page, a web link, or text you paste. You can also share a page or a selection into Voice Reader from Safari, Mail or any other app through the iOS share sheet.

Which languages can it read?

The voices are English — American, British and Australian. The app's own interface is available in 37 languages, but text in other languages will not be read correctly by an English voice. More reading languages are on the list, and telling us which one you need genuinely moves it up.

A photograph came out with the wrong text

Text is recognised from photographs on the device itself, by iOS. It handles printed pages well and handwriting poorly. A sharper, straighter, better-lit photograph of the page usually fixes a bad result; you can also edit the recognised text before generating audio.

A link will not import

Some pages cannot be fetched — those behind a login or a paywall, and those that build their text in the browser rather than serving it. Open the page yourself, copy the article, and paste the text into the app instead; from there it works exactly the same.

Generation failed

Try again once — a request can fail on a bad connection. If it keeps failing, check that the device is online, then write to us with the approximate time it happened and where the text came from.

Can I listen offline?

Yes. Audio is generated once and kept on the device, so an existing listen plays with no network at all. Generating a new one needs a connection.

Where are my files?

Your library, the imported text and the generated audio live on the device. A listen can be exported to the Files app from the player's menu. Deleting a listen deletes its audio; deleting the app removes everything it kept.

Privacy and data

There are no accounts — the app never asks for a name, an email or a phone number. Photographs never leave the device; the text you ask to be read is sent for synthesis and is not stored afterwards. The full account of what leaves the device is in the Privacy Policy.

Delete what is held about me

Deleting the app removes everything stored on the device. On the server there is a character counter for your installation and, if you subscribed, the subscription record; write to the address above from a device that still has the app installed and we will tell you which identifier to send, then delete both.
